Over the Lee/Jackson and King Holidays weekend I went back to Emporia to hang out with my family. While there my brother (the third grader) started telling me about this book he was reading for a book report. He described the book and part of it involved mythology. This perked my interest, I’ve always been a big fan of mythology. While there I decided I would start reading it. Unfortunately he had lost it (typical for a boy his age) and didn’t find it until Sunday afternoon and I was leaving Monday morning. I started reading it and couldn’t put it down. Finally Sunday night after reading 300 pages I had to talk myself off the ledge and get some sleep. On Monday I drove three hours straight to the Barnes & Noble in Reston and finished the last 75 pages of the book in the store. (Yes the book had 375 pages, only my brother picks a book that long for his first book report) I was enthralled, addicted, hooked, obsessed.

10 days later and I am currently in book 4 of the series and very disappointed to know that book 5 is the end of the road for Percy Jackson.
Oh, so I haven’t even said what the book is about. Percy Jackson is a teenager who finds out (after being chased by a Minotaur) that he is a half-blood. Half mortal, half god. Meaning one of his parents is a greek god, thus begins the mythological adventures. He and his half-blood friends go on quests and along the way meet various mythological friends and foes – Aphrodite, Medusa, Centaur’s, etc.
If you aren’t an avid reader the movie will be out on February 12th.

My mom told me today that my brother couldn’t wait the extra three days for me to send him book 2 he went out and bought it. I told you, it’s addictive. My mom and sister are now fighting over who gets book 1 now.
So is my brother advanced or are we kids at heart?
