What you all have been waiting for…..
Fira, Santorini from the Brilliance of the Seas. Santorini was another port where we had to use the tender boats. Kenny and I got up very early and once again were one of the first people off the boat. (A tip in Santorini, you can sleep in an extra hour or two, when we got there nothing was open yet.)
To get from the port to Fira you obviously have to travel up. There are three options, the first is that you can walk up the windy road in the left side of this picture.
The second option is that you can ride a donkey. Oh and for those considering option one, the donkey’s use the same windy road.
The third option, cable car. Which is obviously the option that we chose. Although it was a pretty scary ride. I’m not afraid of heights, Kenny is. I am afraid of craftsmanship.
Kenny and I debated before the trip what we were going to do in Santorini. We thought about an excursion, an ATV, a car, a beach buggy. And in the end….
We rented a convertible smart car. We had the car for about 5 hours which gave us plenty of time to drive all around the island. The rental place gave us a map, which was a joke. No roads have street names and the map was not proportionally correct. Luckily, we soon realized everything eventually intersected with the main road that went up and down the island, so we didn’t worry about the map. The hardest part was finding the place where we rented the car when we had to return it.
So, here is the beauty that is Santorini….
Could you imagine this being your backyard?
Kenny was excited to see the black sand beaches of Santorini. They ended up being the black rock beaches of Santorini. They were beautiful and we loved listening to the water on the rocks as the waves came in and went back out. (We have video I just haven’t figured out how to post it yet)
This is my favorite picture of us!
And then it was time for a morning snack
Now back to the road…
If heaven exists on earth, these homeowners have found it.
In Santorini there are some really traditional structures and then there are some really cool modern buildings like above.
After returning the car we spent the afternoon exploring Fira, Santorini.
I saw this chandelier in a store and fell in love. If I owned a home, it would have come back to America.
We enjoyed an amazing lunch.
Beer and wine – what we do best!
A real Greek Salad – look at that hunk of feta and no lettuce – I could eat one of these every day.
It all looks Greek to me! How were we supposed to know if they were ripping us off?
Kenny’s find on the way out the restaurant.
More of Fira, Santorini
Jealous?
