I have been bugging my wife to let me design her new firm (Spencer, Mayoras, Henderson, & Koch, PLC.) a website. They are a criminal defense law firm in Fairfax and Fredericksburg Virginia. I came up with a neutral design that I think has a nice look and feel. Let me know what you think!

I revamped
kenderson.net and am using it as an avenue to express my side-work/hobby; web design and graphic design conversion. Over the past 6 years of playing with website and web application development, I have found that my true love is in the conversion of the graphic design into actual web content. This is the art of chopping up the graphic design into CSS and HTML, and integrating that into a sweet dynamic website or web application. Enjoy!

During
jsConf 2009 I started playing with the creation of an iPhone side to this website. I did an iPhone interface for
LegalRuled, but that was using IUI Rails. This was done from scratch, and used a bit of JS for the iPhone browser detection. If you have an iPhone - Enjoy!
So our hosting company (cough, cough - Site5) decided it would be cool to update their systems without considering the applications that their customers are running. So this is why www.ashleyandken.com was down last week. After a fresh new install (Running on Mephisto 0.8.2), I was able to get everything back up and running. A big thanks to
jonmagic for the sweet tutorial on upgrading Mephisto on Site5.

Check out the upper right hand corner of the site! I was playing with Javascript and wanted to implement a Stylesheet switcher. Enjoy, and let me know if you want other colors!

So we struggled with making jQuery's ColorPicker JS work correctly with IE6. There are a few other people that experienced similar frustrations and decided to rewrite the library (Intelliance in France). But do to my love for solving Cross Browser issues, I decided to dig in a see what was going on.

This is just a few of my thoughts from day 2 of the Ruby DCamp. There were many sessions (usually 3 running concurrently), so my thoughts only come from those sessions that I attended.

So my nerd-box and I are hanging out at Ruby DCamp and we just sat through a talk on FLEX, and how to use it. I then became motivated to look at alternatives (not that FLEX isn't good) to creating dynamic charts. Below is a chart on this website's traffic. This is just a hacked up embedded version of what you get in Google Analytics.

So we often find ourselves working on old applications, customers applications, and new applications all at the same time. And the odds of these applications being at the version of rails are very slim. Five Runs has a great post on how to deal with freezing specific versions so that you can drop them into the vendor folder of the app and move on with making the neccessary changes. Pretty simple, but nicely spelled ou in the blog;

Chris (founder of
Iterative Designs) started a forum to discuss fringe languages that we (the group) feel have value. The goup is call NOVA Languages (
Google Group), and meets every Monday night. So far the concept has proved to be a great success. Shoot me an email for more info.
